Tikun launched our first livestream last week to chat about cannabis health — and what better timing to talk about stress and anxiety solutions, than the first month of the new decade! During the livestream, we discussed how every person has an endocannabinoid system which naturally works to help us manage everyday tension and can easily be overloaded by unresolved stress. This is one of the causes leading to anxiety disorders.
If you don’t know what phytocannabinoids are – here are some fun facts for you. “Phyto” means “plant” in Greek, therefore phytocannabinoids are compounds from the cannabis plant. Supplementing our endocannabinoid systems with these phytocannabinoids works naturally with multiple receptors in the brain to help calm our body’s “fight or flight” response to stress. If you’d like to try using cannabis to help you deal with stress and anxiety, here are 3 recommendations for success.
Tikun’s Avidekel strain has a 15:1 ratio of CBD:THC, so it’s almost all CBD — which is nonintoxicating and can be taken anytime. It’s terpene profile is rich in myrcene, pinene and limonene, which help with relaxation, focus and mood elevation. I suggest starting with 1 medicine dropper full (1 mL, containing about 20 mg of CBD) of Avidekel under the tongue each morning. That dose can be repeated as needed for increased anxiety or panic attacks.
Some people find that low doses of THC (< 5 mg per day) can help with anxiety with an effect similar to Xanax. Tikun studies done in Israel of the THC dominant strains Erez and Alaska, showed improvement in about 77% of patients with anxiety. I suggest starting with less than 1/4 medicine dropper full (0.25 mL, containing < 5 mg of THC) under the tongue once daily. Low doses are key because higher doses of THC can worsen anxiety and even cause panic attacks and paranoia.
Engage regularly in other wellness activities that have been shown to bolster your body’s endocannabinoid system and your ability to handle stress, such as: exercise, yoga, and mindfulness meditation.
